This article examines El Anatsui's Man's Cloth Series (c. 1999–) as a sustained practice of material redemption, tracing the ethical and aesthetic logic by which discarded liquor bottle caps, residues of the Atlantic trade economy, are transformed into monumental textile-like assemblages. Drawing on Post-Interpretive Criticism, the essay argues that Anatsui's work enacts what PIC terms the ethics of reparation: the restoration of moral and material dignity to objects declared worthless by colonial and capitalist systems. The analysis attends to the formal conditions of this transformation, collective studio labour, the retention of legible brand markings, the open-ended installation protocols Anatsui extends to curators and preparators, and reads these not as curatorial gestures but as structural enactments of repair. The piece further situates Man's Cloth within Anatsui's broader bottle-cap practice and his Ewe-Kente inheritance, arguing that the series produces what might be called a new aesthetic theology: one in which beauty is diagnostic rather than decorative, and continuity of historical record is treated as a moral obligation of form.
