Research record update, 17 October 2026

Two independent working papers by Dorian Vale were published by Museum of One on 17 October 2026 in the Museum of One Research Working Papers series. Both contribute to Post-Interpretive Criticism (PIC). The earlier dated entries below retain their original coverage and programme-status dates.

Working Paper No. 1: Answerability

Answerability: Exhibition, Documentation, and Historical Evidence in Postwar Japanese Art examines how exhibition arrangements, artistic operation and photographic documentation bear on the scope and justification of art-historical claims. It develops historical answerability through engagement with Reiko Tomii’s published scholarship and following discussion and feedback from her. Dorian Vale is the sole author; this is not a coauthored paper or a statement of Tomii’s endorsement or formal peer review.

Working Paper No. 2: After the Interpretation Changes

After the Interpretation Changes: Correction, Completion, and the Circulation of Museum Titles distinguishes the withdrawal of a racialized museum title, the later completion of a naming intention and the circulation of collection descriptions. Its documentary case follows Simon Maris’s Isabella through Rijksmuseum, Europeana and Wikimedia Commons records. The study developed through scholarly correspondence and critical response from Alexander Viktorovich Markov. Dorian Vale retains sole authorship; selected correspondence material is included with permission, without publishing the full private exchange or implying formal peer review or blanket endorsement.

These publications are outputs of continuing programmes, not announcements that the wider inquiries have concluded. The individual publication records retain their rights, version statements and attribution limits.

Published research and methods

These methods remain proposals for critical inquiry. Their assumptions, coding rules, exclusions, and limits require scrutiny. Read the methods programme.

Field essays and studies

These selected essays belong to the continuing inquiry into material presence, witness, and cultural memory. Read the programme · Browse field essays.

Public exchanges and archival preservation

The published exchanges retain their own authorship and publication histories. Akimaru's dialogue is a supporting research resource; no ongoing joint programme is asserted.

Publication records and access

11 October 2026: The Volume I and Volume II bibliographic Pages provide current repository links and version histories. Both retain first-edition statements from 2025; their current repository versions were published in April 2026. Repository version numbers do not denote new book editions.

The Research Discovery and Archive Sources Page, also published on 11 October, brings together discovery, archive, and library catalogue links. It distinguishes corpus discovery from individual work records and notes the limits of catalogue access and unverified format details. Catalogue presence does not establish peer review or institutional endorsement.

Research in development

Translation in progress

Osman Omran, a Sudanese graphic and book designer and freelance translator based in Muscat, Oman, is translating Threads of Sand into Arabic. Dorian Vale authorised the work on 21 August 2026 and accepted the proposed translator's preface. Omran subsequently reported progress.

The translation is authorised and in progress. No completed Arabic edition, delivery date, or publishing agreement is announced. Translation programme · Existing English-language publication.

In development

The developing theoretical dialogue with Alexander Viktorovich Markov examines critical language and what makes a correction to an interpretation remain effective over time. No completed output or agreed joint publication is announced. Read the programme overview and its published context.

Sources and coverage

This record draws on the linked public Museum of One records available through 13 October 2026 and the accompanying programme descriptions reviewed on 14 October 2026. Dates attached to publication entries are their public record dates; the translation authorisation is a separately identified project milestone. The review date does not establish a date for an undated research development.

Private meeting records, correspondence, and unpublished manuscripts are not reproduced. The record makes no claim that every activity during 2026 is included.
